Available Magic Jack area code list below this post
If you purchase a Magic Jack VoIP device and your area code is not available then people in your area when calling you will be charged a long distance fee. A lot of people find this out after they have bought the Magic Jack and were upset.
I have had the Magic Jack for two years now and am very happy with it for the most part. The one thing that I don't like is their lack of up front information on things such as this.
I found out about the lack of available Magic Jack area codes like a lot of people did, when I was in the process of setting up my Phone number. For Me it wasn't that big of a deal because most of my incoming calls are long distance anyway and I had traded my $70.00 dollar a month phone bill for $19.95 a year, that's a $800.00 a year savings.
One way you can help keep costs down for friends and family that call that still have the old land line, don't answer when they call. If you have their number listed in the contacts list of your Magic Jack Soft phone their name and number will be displayed by caller ID. You simply click on their number, click send and you call them right back and talk as long as you want without you or them acquiring any long distance charges.
For other people it is a big deal because they didn't have a chance to consider if it mattered to them or not to have their local area code. People felt deceived and have doubts about the Magic Jack product.
I am hopeful that I can help clear up and inform people before they purchase the Magic Jack about a few of things such as this

ReplyDeleteCan I call from my computer without using a phone jack by just dialing the keypad or is the keypad connected to the phone through the phone jack.
